1. Weakness and Need
-Lennie’s weakness is her overwhelming need to escape boredom, and her fear of trying new things
-She needs to overcome her fears of standing out in order to come out of her shell and truly experience the adventure she embarks on.
2. Desire
-Lennie desires new experiences and new ways to spend her days, she doesn’t want to feel trapped. She’s looking for an experience beyond her families small city apartment
3. Opponent
-There are a few possible opponents in the story, the first being Lennie’s parent both for leaving her home to her boredom all day and for waking her from her journey when they return. The second is the little girl she meets in India, but this opponent turns out to be her friend.
4. Plan
-Lennie’s plan is having no plan, she is so overcome with boredom she quite literally loses herself into boredom. It is with this that she discovers she has a gifted imagination and is capable of altering her presence.
5. Battle
– Lennie battles with the fear of standing out, she doesn’t look or dress like the people around her when she first arrives in India, she changes her clothes and is too timid to talk to anyone. The elephant, Frank, shows her the way and eventually makes her feel more comfortable.
6. Self-revelation
-Lennie’s self revelation comes when she must ride her beautifully painted elephant with her new friend through the crowd and it is then that she realizes that it does not always have to be a bad thing to stand out.
7. New Equilibrium
Lennie has started a new experience for herself she is no longer wondering what she will do tomorrow, instead she is wondering where she will go tomorrow, who she will meet, and what new experiences are waiting for her.
