A peaceful day in the woods when me and my sister decided to go for a walk. We live up north so there’s a lot more forests there so we had plenty of land to go exploring. The woods are right behind our house and most of the land is marked with very small trails so it’s just enough to give the illusion of walking in the woods with little idea of where we are. Like usually we decided to start off on the small trails, then instead of going back we decided to go for the hours long trail walk. These are the trails that are less traveled so the the trails aren’t as visible in the summer and not as clean. There were a few fallen trees here and there and we didn’t think anything of it so we just hopped over them. I was in front like always because of my fast walking speed and my sister usually a few feet behind me unless I let her catch up. We were just about in the deepest parts of the trails with only a few signs of human exploration, like a four wheeler trail. As we walked I could hear a lot of movement in the trees and cracking of wood. I looked around as I kept walking to make sure there were no animals. The worry about a bear, deer or moose scaring me always crosses my mind. There was nothing like usually, maybe it was just a squirrel, I thought. I kept an eye out and kept walking forward and I did end up seeing something moving, I had already past it. As I saw it move I heard a more intense crack. It was a tree, a quite large on at that. I slowed down to look at this tree as it became more apparent that it was falling. My sister was still trying to catch up to me, at that point I thought about the tree falling onto her yet I didn’t believe that could actually happen. My fears were realized as it came falling down as my sister came closer to me and the tree came closer to falling, she wasn’t as paranoid as me so she didn’t keep a close eye out. She was focusing on catching up with her slow jog. She probably noticed it but I didn’t want to take any chances so I quickly turned around before it hit the ground and shoved her back. The tree feel right in front of us. I never saw this happen right before my eyes but I’ve seen plenty of large trees collapsed in the trails. I was shocked and my sister was as well. At that point the only thing we could do was continue down the trail but this time cautiously. I’m not sure if that would of killed us but it would of knocked one of us out and that wouldn’t of been good at all. This changed how we went for a walk in the woods.
