You may want to load a player on the computer in 113 IMRC that has a desktop version of your project.<\/p>\n<p>I will also have iPads to preview the iBooks projects.<\/p>\n<p>Consider what you want other NMD students to see, and how you get across both \u00a0a quick version\/summary and a possibility of a longer read.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>How to embed pdf and other files<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>For pdf, PPT, Pages and a host of other fies&#8211;use the new plug-in supported button in the post visual editor (WISYWIG editor, not text). If your story can be accessed online, your post should contain text, URL, or be embedded (you tube videos can be embedded by just using the URL in a single line by itself in a post&#8211;you may add text or images, just not on the youtube URL line). If not give a summary and any representative image, then let me know how you will get your files to me dropbox thumb drive other&#8230;<\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"omsc-toggle\"><div class=\"omsc-toggle-title\">Project 9: Story Full Draft<\/div><div class=\"omsc-toggle-inner\"><\/p>\n<p>Submit a full draft of the text of your story in a post. \u00a0Use category &#8220;Full Draft&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"omsc-toggle\"><div class=\"omsc-toggle-title\">Project 8: Place Based Story<\/div><div class=\"omsc-toggle-inner\"><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll explore geotagging tools for\u00a0<a title=\"Place Based Storytelling\" href=\"http:\/\/443.nmdprojects.net\/blog\/place-based-storytelling\/\" target=\"_blank\">place based storytelling<\/a>\u00a0developed by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/nationalparks\/for-educators\/digital-storytelling\/\" target=\"_blank\">PBS America&#8217;s National Parks Model<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first module introduces\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/nationalparks\/for-educators\/digital-storytelling\/#tier1\" target=\"_blank\">Flickr-based geotagging<\/a>\u00a0of photos.<\/p>\n<p>The second module explores how<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/nationalparks\/for-educators\/digital-storytelling\/#tier2\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0Google Earth<\/a>\u00a0can &#8220;help forge a stronger bond between community and place.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The third module introduces techniques for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/nationalparks\/for-educators\/digital-storytelling\/#tier3\" target=\"_blank\">digital storytelling<\/a>\u00a0including video editing, voice, over and special effects. Most of these use Windows software, so you&#8217;ll need to adapt for Mac applications for creating video-based stories . We&#8217;ll explore this third option later in the course for those interested in video.<\/p>\n<p>Create Custom Map with New Google Maps\/Earth<\/p>\n<p>For more updated tutorials using the latest version of Google software, visit the Google Earth resources for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/earth\/outreach\/tutorials\/custommaps.html\" target=\"_blank\">creating Customs Maps<\/a>, and<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/earth\/outreach\/tutorials\/websitemaps.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0embedding your map to a website<\/a>. Your assignment is to create a Custom map with photos, text, links, and custom annotations. We will investigate these features, and the collaborate extensions of these custom maps in our Class\u00a0<a title=\"Story Portal\" href=\"http:\/\/443.nmdprojects.net\/blog\/story-portal\/\" target=\"_blank\">Story Portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"omsc-toggle\"><div class=\"omsc-toggle-title\">Project 7: Journals &amp; Research<\/div><div class=\"omsc-toggle-inner\"><\/p>\n<p>Gather materials, data, examples, for your project (due Feb 25)<\/p>\n<p>Review the<a title=\"Journal Tips\" href=\"http:\/\/443.nmdprojects.net\/blog\/journal-tips\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0Journal Tip<\/a>s in your group sharing the best tools, tips, apps, and approaches to gathering material for your project.<\/p>\n<p>What kinds of software, hardware, approaches, tools work to get your material?<\/p>\n<p>How are you storing it? Organizing it?<\/p>\n<p>Discuss with your group, post as a Journal entry ( a post with Title &#8220;Journal Tips&#8221; and category &#8220;Journal), and share with the class the best ideas from your group.<\/p>\n<p><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"omsc-toggle\"><div class=\"omsc-toggle-title\">Project 6: Backstory<\/div><div class=\"omsc-toggle-inner\"><\/p>\n<p>Follow the\u00a0<a title=\"Character Backstory\" href=\"http:\/\/443.nmdprojects.net\/blog\/character-backstory\/\" target=\"_blank\">Character Backstory<\/a>\u00a0instructions to create a prezi for your story that outlines the main character&#8217;s 1) Desire, 2) internal obstacles and 3) External obstacles.<\/p>\n<p>Post under &#8220;Character Backstory&#8221; category using prize embed iframe.<\/p>\n<p><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"omsc-toggle\"><div class=\"omsc-toggle-title\">Project 5: Format<\/div><div class=\"omsc-toggle-inner\"><\/p>\n<p>Create a sample of your story in its destination format. See the\u00a0<a title=\"Story Format\" href=\"http:\/\/443.nmdprojects.net\/blog\/story-format\/\">Story Format<\/a>\u00a0Assignment for more details.<\/p>\n<p>Post under &#8220;Story Format&#8221; category.<\/p>\n<p>Skim\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/443.nmdprojects.net\/digitalcookbook.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Digital Storytelling Cookbook<\/a>, Ch 5-7 (due Feb 11)<\/p>\n<p>Skim for basic concepts, the software details are outdated because of \u00a0upgrades, but the concepts are mostly sound.<\/p>\n<p><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"omsc-toggle\"><div class=\"omsc-toggle-title\">Project 4: Scene<\/div><div class=\"omsc-toggle-inner\"><\/p>\n<p>Write and post one\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/443.nmdprojects.net\/blog\/story-scene\/\" target=\"_blank\">story scene<\/a>\u00a0from your story.\u00a0You may use the in-class material and build on that to create a complete scene, or you may pick a different part of your story. Consider the Storytelling Cookbook. advice of using a photograph (or visual memory) as a cue for this. Don&#8217;t start at the beginning and explain all the background&#8211;that&#8217;s too hard.
