The kind of the story that I would like to propose, I’d like to say it is a hybrid of character based and self- discovery story. As I have mentioned in my previous post “Story Proposal”, I was inspired by the incident that my father experienced when he was working as a soldier in HonKong Military Service (please refer to previous post for more details). I would like to explore the aspect of fear, or say, an emotion that deeply embedded in our mind/subconscious.
So, the story would be led by a character, he/she will go on a discovery path and reveal fear step by step.
What shape does such a story have? (Structure of a story)
Scene
It feels like I am walking in the middle of nowhere, well, in fact, i am. Tommy is leading me towards the infinity of darkness. If there isn’t any moonlight, I couldn’t even tell that’s him, I would think of the person who’s walking in front of me is an evil, and we both walking on the path to the hell.
We are supposed to look for them, but now even we ourselves are in trouble. “I think we need a compass. Do you have one with you?” asked Tommy. I search my bag, there’s only some food and water; then my pull out my jacket pockets, all empty, no compass there. “Just keep walking, I think they would be around here.” I said, I know it sounds useless and unproductive, but that seems to be the only way. ///TBC
Event
There will be a few.
﹣A gradual process that lead us(audience/character) to discover fear is all around us.
Character
Two human being and a dog
Place/Location
Wild; and Our Mind possibly
(Remark: does it necessarily have to be an actually place; can it be virtual like illusion, pipe dream, etc)
I am curious about your exploration of fear. I wonder if it’s your father’s fear or your own (or both?) I’t very scary for a child to see a parent afraid, so it can “infect” the child.
So I wonder if your story is about multiple levels of fear. I want to find out what is causing the fear. I want more to happen to show me how these characters are–more things that are common and mundane (like darkness, and no compass) rather than interpretive like “hell” or “evil”. If you want to evoke these two things, use small sensory details that convey the feeling. This is not always easy.
