The ride to Michigan was long and I honestly didn’t know what to expect going to a state I’ve never been with people I’ve never met before. I decided to go with an open mind, no expectations, and hoping to just grow in my relationship with God over the summer. Before going I was told that summer projects are life changing and I will have an amazing time (after going I totally agree). When I got there with my mom and grandparents, the project staff were all standing there ready to help carry all my stuff in. Right away I meet Andrea, who I had talked on the phone when I was accepted to the project. After saying goodbye to my family, Dayna introduced herself to me. She was my discipler while I was there, which is basically someone who checks in weekly with how you are doing and helps direct you in your relationship with God. After settling into my room I really felt hopefully for what the summer would hold. It was such a welcoming environment, I knew God was going to take me on an amazing journey. I meet my roommate Emily first! She is a gem. I quickly learned she would say anything and was completely honest about everything. She brought so much joy into our room! Elizabeth came all the way from Florida, and she is very much a people person and cared so much for everyone on project. That first night, we all walked to Bryant Park, a beach right near the college we were staying at. We had a barbecue and played games  to get to know each other. I think back to that first day and I smile knowing that I started friendships with people that will last a lifetime.
