Storyboard:

Introduction:

  • Student who comes from poor background breaks laptop
  • Mischievous science professor notices and offers a solution, augmented reality eye contacts
  • Main character looks at the contacts, contemplating
  • The professor says that he doesn’t have to, but that he would let the main character try them for free, but the main character doesn’t know that he would be the first to try
  • The main character contemplates while looking at his broken laptop screen again
  • He eventually decides to do it and meets up with professor to do the exchange of the eye contacts

Use of contacts:

  • He wakes up the next morning and put the contacts in
  • Look in bathroom mirror to see weather and details of the day
  • Look at dresser to see how many clothes are left
  • Look at class projector screen to take notes
  • Look at food bar to see nutrients in food
  • Look at bikes to inspect the prices for each of them
  • Look at bird to learn what species it is
  • Look at GPS to navigate around campus
  • Look at windows with sun coming to create augmented shades

Problem:

  • Problem: the contacts start glitching
  • Problem: the contacts black out for minutes at a time

Peak/Conclusion:

  • Looks down at phone to try and call professor, doesn’t pick up
  • Walks around campus in a panic, and finds professor, but the professor doesn’t recognize him as he notices something went wrong
  • The student tries to take contacts out, but can’t and is stuck with the contacts

  1. What this projects most needs is plot. Your list of incidents above is mostly unmotivated–they are just events in a day; instead each event should build up and be linked to plot. For example in an early scene with weather, it turns out it’s pretty normal, but there’s a strange bit of data, that links to the crisis later on; each scene or but of data should be a clue to the crisis.
    As we mentioned in class, the contacts could also let your student see things others can’t see–maybe he has advanced warning of an impending electrical blackout ? alien invasion? ozone collapse? etc. and maybe the greedy professor can also be helpful in making sense of this strange data? so sh/e isn’t completely mercenary…
