Describe your main story line

Father son duo lost skiing in the Catalan Pyrenees mountains while on vacation in Barcelona. Retired Veteran Tom Hunter and his son Kevin had decided to take a daylong ski trip. An accomplished skier, Tom had decided to take his younger son, Kevin, up for one more run. For some reason, they took the wrong trail and discovered they were soon lost and the sun was going down. After hours of trekking what seemed to be nowhere Tom came to the conclusion they would be spending the night. They didn’t really have anything other than what the normal skier would have. Tom had no matches or anything. They had no survival equipment really to speak of they just had the clothes on their backs and about five pieces of hard candy in my pocket. Shelter was Tom’s first mission and before long he discovered a small cave. It was a godsend against the chilling wind and Tom and his son spend their days in that cave as the snowstorm went on for three solid days. As Tom and Kevin huddled together, their main concern was keeping as warm and as dry as possible. Toms army survival training had kicked in that first day. They huddled together to stay warm and could only sleep in short spurts, but Tom believed these things would come them alive, then there was water. Tom knew that eating snow will drop your body temperature and luckily right by their cave there was a stream. Tom knew they were going to stay put, so he took Kevin’s ski boots and filled them up with water at the stream. Our ski poles were aluminum so Tom broke those and made a sipping tube for him to drink out of that boot. Tom and his son Kevin, had already survived for days in frigid temperatures without fire or food. That’s when Mike began to write what he believed would be his last words to his wife and other family members. During their days on the mountain, search helicopters passed over several times, but they never saw Tom and his son. In fact, a massive ground and air search was underway — hundreds of troops and volunteers fanned out in an effort to find them. Eventually, they called off the search, thinking they would only find Tom and Kevin in the spring.

On the 8th day, they had ‘gone missing.’ Tom climbed to the top of a plateau near their cave. That’s when he saw some snowmobiles further down a logging road in the distance. Facing the most difficult decision of their ordeal, Mike decided to leave Matt behind and try to reach the snowmobilers. After more than a week without food, Tom was too weak to get back to Kevin. As he waited with the riders for another day, help came in the form of a busload of French lumberjacks, who, by God’s providence, just happened to be coming to those woods to gather wood. When they saw Tom at the cabin, they knew from the newspapers exactly who he was. Mike soon sent them to see if his son was still alive.

2. Describe your main character as well as her/his desire, background, obstacles and character flaw(s) that work against achieving her/his desire

Tom had always been an honest man his whole life, family always came first in his eyes and the safety of the ones he loved and you could always see that through Tom’s actions. He was in the Marines his whole life so survival certainly was not unfamiliar, however in these circumstances, it wouldn’t be easy. He desires nothing more than getting his son to safety and if his own life can be saved in the process that would be amazing to.

3. Describe some possible scenes/actions that will challenge your protagonist

The protagonist in the story would probably be mother nature and her wrath of cold and snow she is putting on Tom and his son. Tom’s skill however will be the actions that will challenge mother nature as Tom has been lost before through his experience in the army and he knows how to handle himself and his son in certain positions that they are in.

4. Describe the format/technology you will use to render the story

I plan to use twine to tell my story because it is a great way to include both text and pictures for the reader, and I believe that pictures will really enhance my story and give the reader a more vivid idea of the situation Tom and his son are in.

1.
